Starting solids: why guidance needs context
Global guidance, local recommendations and developmental readiness do not fit into one app reminder.
Name the recommendation
WHO recommends complementary foods from six months alongside continued breastfeeding. That is a public-health recommendation, not an individual assessment of your baby. [1]
Local guidance is not identical
Finland’s Food Authority recommends exclusive breastfeeding to 4–6 months and states that all babies need solid foods from six months. Ask your local care team how the guidance applies to your child. [2]
Readiness and allergies need attention
CDC describes starting around six months, not before four, and looking for developmental readiness. It advises discussing peanut introduction with a clinician when a baby has severe eczema or egg allergy. [3]
What to put in your food log
Once you have agreed how to start, you can record the food, date and observations in Baby Track. Write what you actually saw rather than labelling an unconfirmed allergy. The app does not assess readiness or decide the order of foods. Use the source guidance and your child’s care plan; a reminder is not permission to introduce a food.
